The Great Last

About a year ago Matthew Davey (Vocals Guitar), Rory Ford (Drums), Callum Matheson (Guitar))
Thomas Howes (Keyboards/Synths) and Tom Baker (Bass) formed the North London, UK, based band The Great Last, they felt their epiphany moment arrived in April 2011 when a new audience took them to heart and so we now come to November – 7 months on.

The Great Last

The Great Last

It is nice to be with a band at the start of their career and I hope The Great Last stay the distance as they have some fascinating twists and turns to add to the music scene. Vocals so reminiscent of Dave Vanian, how could I not like the sound, do all singers from Hemel Hempstead have the same depth of vocal? I wont try a scientific study.

The guys play comfortably together, as each instrument is allowed to feed off the other, the synths giving the sound a kind of electro-pop sentience as a back-drop, while the guitar rips the music slap bang in to the second decade of the 21st Century.

There is a sense of playfulness around the band, though the vocal inevitably brings out a slightly more gothic feel to the sound. The gentle humming of the electronics is generously filled with some intricate guitar work, while the drum and bass insist the listener gets involved, oh and did I mention a great vocal.
