Kick to Kill
Kick to Kill formed back in 2007 in Glasgow, Scotland. The Line-up of Dave Cook (Vocals / Guitar), Harris Hill (Synth), Lewis Macaulay (Drums / Vocals) and Ewen Shearer (Bass) produce a growling synth rock to delight the ears.
Inevitably an introduction via the a record label with the name Flowers in the Dustbin would require my investigation. Although they never quite got round to playing live or even recording, Flowers in The Dustbin included in the line-up Sid Vicious, Viv Albertine, Keith Levene and Palmolive. The irony of a record label with the same name not only drew a smile, but also an immediate need to find out more.
I am delighted to say I wasn’t disappointed, Kick to Kill are now garnering a far stronger support as the superb sound is heard by a wider audience. The bellowing bass is accompanied by a rattling drum beat, whilst the synths add a sense of the darker side, as the vocal flickers like a candle lighting the path. There is a pent-up energy which is neatly constrained within the structures, which only further adds to the interest levels.
Kick to Kill recently released a single Black Kisses and are set for the debut LP later this year (2012). The time under the radar has been well spent, it is now time they flew right in to the hearts of those of us who enjoy dark, constrained rock. I think bondage-rock may make some sense as a genre definition.
