EL Rayo Verde
El Rayo Verde is an indie band from Buenos Aires in Argentina. Originally formed as a four piece in 2010 – after the departure of one member the remaining trio of Noelia Fernández (Keyboards / Violin / Guitar /Vocal), Juan Tranier (Guitar / Mandolin /Vocal) and Facundo Ordoñez (Bass / Guitar / Mandolin) changed the structure slightly but retained the same musical direction.
It has been a while since I wrote about the South American music scene and here we are in the space of a few days, two very different sounding bands. El Rayo Verde have almost symphonic compositions that float high above like an Albatross gliding in the sky scanning the landscape far below. The acoustic sounds lend the trio a dreamy quality in which it is easy for the listener to settle down in comfort. The songs are of sufficient complexity to keep the ears tuned in to the music, whilst equally the rolling nature of the tracks remain languid to the brain.
The trio keep busy in the recording studios, regularly turning out self contained EPs with stories to tell. El Rayo Verde is a band to take a listen to in a quiet moment, as the patterns of sound enable the mind to relax and dwell in the peaceful material. Influences are varied, though as in common with many of the bands in Buenos Aeries there is a notable reflection of Velvet Underground.
