Triptides
Triptides from Bloomington in the USA is a psychedelic-surf trio comprising Glenn Brigman (Vocals / Guitar), Josh Menashe (Bass / Vocals) and Josh Morrow (Drums).
Having formed in late 2010, Triptides has developed an engaging live performance and to mark their continued progress have a new LP – Sun Pavilion set for release on the 19th November 2012 through Stroll On / 360 Degree Music.
Last I checked Bloomington is some-way from the sea, so it is of some interest that the trio manage to sound as-though they have
come straight out of the California garage scene. I have had the opportunity of taking a listen to the 12 track Sun Pavilion, but wanted to consider the overall feel of the band rather than the LP in isolation.
If you have a busy appointment schedule – hitting the play button won’t help at all, as the dreamy rustle of guitar fuzz floats
in to the room. The band take this psychedelic format and shake it up with a tempo that sweeps along the music in a ray of sunshine. The Bass / Drum combination lays down a solidity to the out-put that muscles it way in to the brain and it is all delivered in hushed tones that have the listener reaching for a Sun-lounger and a kaleidoscope.
The combination of styles could so easily become far too complicated for the head to enjoy, but Triptides have learnt their craft well in the past couple of years and emerge with something that engages the listener with a sense of hypnosis. The LP is one to add to the pre-order list as it does full justice to the band.
