The Amatory Murder is an alternative synth-rock band from Brooklyn in the USA. Centred around Christian Peppas (Vocals / Synth / Programming) Mario Drakos (Rhythm Guitar) and O.T. For some reason I found myself thinking of neon lights on hitting play. The music has the distinctive warm glow which emits from the diodes. Subtle washes of electronics flood the ears whilst the guitars create a more substantial structure for the synths to weave around, topped off with a fused vocal that appears through the sounds in catches and waves.
The audience could as easily be found in a trendy pop-up Finnish Club as they are in their home territory of New York. There is a global appeal to the sound which pulls together the best of rock concepts and throws in an inspiring daub of ’80s electro-beats. The Amatory Murder is able to lift this mixture and deliver a sound which slips out as a fresh noise for the ’10s.
The slightly roughened edges that the band use to add to the atmospherics add a highlight to the out-put and one which enables them to gain a far broader base than were the music produced in a clean shot. The earthy fuzzing scintillates the ears and has the listener demanding more.
