Jordsy

Based in Winnipeg, Canada there is a creative under the name of Jordsy, who plays both as a solo artist and as part of a band. His solo material on which this review is focussed has an indie-folk-pop sound to it.

The solo vehicle came in to being last year (2011) and already there is a plethora of material and videos, with the music released through his own label - Sweet Knuckle Records. The volume of out-put reminds me of Space Creator Band, who I wrote about back in 2010.

The music slides towards the lo-fi route with some felty fuzz to play with the ears, yet has a very different feel, as much of the music retains an acoustic folk texture as it bounces out of the speakers. Whilst sailing round the room the music adds a spark of fun to the environment, which gives it that poppy sound I spoke of in the introduction. If that makes it sound like a mish-mash of colliding perspectives, then you will be pleased to know that it works tidily.

Whilst not challenging, there is enough song-writing ability to retain attention, lifting the sound above what could easily have become damp sponges. On a personal level, I particularly enjoy the judicious use of percussion to keep the momentum flowing. It will be interesting to keep an ear out on Jordsy to see how this solo project develops.
