Marc Evans: War-Torn Heart

The four tracks on War-Torn Heart are an emotional roller-coaster of reflections of family, love and breaking-up.

Opening with Forever You, a combination of a love song and a fathers perspective of a daughter coming of age. Familiar sounding on first hearing, this track seems to have all the hall-marks of timelessness. A warming chorus shines through a frenetic guitar verse, which gives the track genuine depth and validity.

Porcelain Angels draws an memories of childhood, combined with lyrics inspired by a dream. A slower piece, which provides Marc with the opportunity to showcase his ability to write songs. A neat package wrapped up in just over two minutes of reflections.

Where Did It All Go Right is quite simply a love song. This composition is the pick-of the EP, as lyric, songwriting and music all blend in to soft focus, which suits the mood of the track superbly.

The video is a grainy live version, but gives a flavour of Marc Evans.

Finishing with Winter’s Tale, the flip-side to the previous track, as this about relationship breakdown. The use of accordion is an inspiration n this track, as it adds, not a parody of itself but stamps the track out, demanding an immediate second spin.

All in all, this could have turned in to a mushy peat-bog, but Marc has created a great landscape from which to expose some of his undoubted talent as a writer and composer and leapt over the dangers with ease.

Once I have some more information on where to get the release, I will provide an update, follow indie bands blog on twitter to keep in touch with the latest news of emerging indie artists.
