The Supernovas at Flowerpot Camden February 2010

I headed down to Camden again on 20th February, to get to see The Supernovas and since then I have been away, so am now just catching up.

The Supernovas

The Supernovas

For some reason, I never did fathom out, all I had to do was ask, there were two bands on at Flowerpot that night, with The Supernovas taking to the stage at just after ten as the second band. I’m not sure if it me that is the jinx at the venue, but quite a few bands have technical problems when I watch them here. As I always say, It is how they deal with problems that marks out a band and they coped really well.

Opening up with their recently released Ace Face, the set got off to a great start, as the live performance of this great single takes on an even more scornful perspective.

People who had been drifting away after the first band, started to head back to the stage. A video Camera Operator, who had set himself up just next to me with a good view of the band, had to move as the growing crowd blocked his field of vision. Be good to see what he captured, if you know him and have an email address, please let me know and I’ll see what I can get posted on the site.

The Nile and Valentine’s had the audience captured and after early technical hitches The Supernovas were in full flow.

City of Smoke, which I hadn’t heard before was a revelation and my personal highlight of the evening as the band took on a far greater depth, the controlled guitar and drum power reminiscent of The Clash.

Suddenly it was all over, as the final chords of Slaughter in the Gaza, The Supernovas release due out later this month, drifted away, .

I didn’t get much of a chance to speak to any of the band as I had to get back to Cambridge for an early Sunday start, but did catch up with Joei for a couple of minutes. Hopefully more of a chance to speak next time round.

If you happen to be in Austin, Texas on the 15th March, well worth catching The Supernovas at SXSW.
