Grinderswitch

Back in 1973 a Joe Dan Petty, Larry Howard, Dru Lombar, and Rick Burnett got together in Georgia and formed the band Grinderswitch, who for the next decade continued to travel extensively and released 4 label albums and 3 own releases.

One classic track, which became well known, particularly in the UK was Pickin the Blues, which for many people is no more than an intro followed by the voice of John Peel.

In 1976 Pickin the Blues reached No.27 in the festive 50.

After an extensive break Dru Lombar decided to revive the band, but within a short space of time died, in September 2005.

This is perhaps more a legacy to a song, which came to signify the start of the radio programme that was John Peel.

The song still holds strong reminders of my introduction to Indie music, before it had a media title and I always expect to hear Johns voice after the first few bars.
