The Hotelles

Tunbridge Wells is a surprising space to find young bands as it is the epitome off all that is worst with middle class Empire apologists in the UK, but this is the second time I have taken a foray in the past six months, the last occasion was to take a look at Island Cassettes and there is a decent music scene in the Weald of Kent.

With ages spread over six years with the eldest member being 20, the brothers not only overcome sibling rivalry, but potential significant differences in interest with a commonality of the love of alternative rock bands across the ’80s and ’90s. There is a scintillating energy that rattles out of the speakers as the trio deliver sharp percussion and bass which is combined with the higher octave rapidly fingered guitar and a vocal that can engage emotionally with the lyric.

Whilst all three are still in full-time education they have set out a serious creative and career path that would serve as a template for many bands who are attempting the business full-time. The Hotelles do not let the seriousness with which they take their music, from deflecting or diluting a genuine sound from being the prime mover.

With a growing touring circuit, I would definitely suggest a night out if they are your way and you want to hear some effusive and smartly delivered new-wave which echoes of the past but has an absolute relevance to today.
