The Electric Modern

The London, England based synth rock outfit The Electric Modern has undergone some line-up changes since their formation back in 2008, currently featuring Dean Canty (Vocals/Guitar), Adam Sullivan (Guitar/Vocals/Synth), Jon Mytom-Hart (Drums) and John Bradford (Bass).

The Electric Modern

There so often seems to be a synergy between my position as I write about a band and their music. Today (Sunday as I scribe this) I decided I would cook a slow roast joint, so since the early hours of this morning I have had the oven pumping heat out and just perchance today the temperature is about 28ºC (c 82ºF) so in here it is meltingly warm. Now what does slow roast have to do with The Electric Modern you may wonder. Melting – is the connection. The luxuriant tones of the synth catalysis the whole sound around which the rock construct instruments melt like warm plastic.

The combinations are melded together in to a fusion in which to revel as the vocal that timbres of the best in euro-electronica glosses the topping to a delightful sound that snares the listener in a sticky web of bitter-sweet irony. Neatly crafted tracks maximise the potential of the combination to deliver a sound that shimmers with competence and ability.

It may not be a natural home for some, but for top notch synth rock, there is not much to meet it at present so well worth taking a listen.
