Lillian Todd-Jones

Pulling experiences from a variety of directions –  musical, literary, imagination and literal I hope this is not the golden hour of the steam-punk that is Lillian Todd-Jones. She delivers an amazing vocal which is not likely to be lost and is control of the course she steers, currently entering a collaborative song-writing stage in her career, I am fearful this will all fade to a fizz we will hear on every radio station across the world on prime-time pap-slots. But perhaps my cynicism is unwarranted and certainly for now not appropriate.

A sublime ear for detail working to combine lyrics, vocal and instrumentation to deliver a sound that reaches out of the speakers like a coil, ensnaring all those within earshot. Smartly composed melodies remind me of the ‘hare running’ at a Greyhound meeting. The dogs just waiting for the traps to open and the ‘Hare’ while an integral part of the drama, much like the music with Lillian, is but a sideshow to the hypnotic story telling lyrics and vocal performance that is just waiting to be unleashed from the traps and  burrows its way in to the cortex.

One to watch, well more importantly one to hear now and extol to develop in this space, rather than head off to the races. Staying with the racing animal themes, but this time heading to horses. Whilst the groomed and plastic show of the Epsom Derby may be a fun day out once a year, a freezing cold rainy afternoon when you can’t see the far side of the track at Plumpton is a far more interesting space. Please stay running at Plumpton Lillian Todd-Jones.
