Groovy Star
Groovy Star is the vehicle the singer / songwriter / guitarist Michael Featherstone from Ilkley in England uses to reveal his psychedelic electronica to the world.
Swirling sounds emerge from the speakers, with electronics accompanied by fused guitar generating a space which reminds me of Celtic folk combined with funk. This is music which would sit well on a diversity of spaces both at home and attached as a soundtrack.
That may perhaps draw you to the conclusion that this is merely music for commercialisation and undoubtedly Michael is focussed on making a living from his out-put, but that commercial drive needs to be taken in context with the over-all shape of the music, which has an appeal across a range of genres. The material has the feel of a shiny nylon stay-press suit, but below the gaudy fibres my ears can hear some genuine and creative abilities.
You are right, this won’t sit on my playlist, but I enjoy and appreciate the natural ability of a talented musician and creator and wish Groovy Star every success in the chosen direction.
