Coastal Cities
Coastal Cities a quintet from High Wycombe in England are made up of Declan Cullen (Guitar / Vocals), Lewis Slade (Drums), Dan Hardy (Bass), William Clark (Synths) and Sean Semmens (Guitar) and are brand new out of the starting blocks.
Coastal Cities have set out their stall with some evident ambitions, as I was contacted by that good old Theo-PR and they already have a debut EP Think Tank for sale, which came out on * on 5th December 2011.
Ambition and reality can in the music business be but double-edged sword, in this instance, I think these guys have every right to stake out their space in the pantheon of music.
There is a lilting almost Cuban feel to the music as it skips around the room like a rebounding ball in a pin-ball machine. The delightful drums are where my ears are drawn, that isn’t to say that the rest of the band are in anyway short of the mark, it is just that percussion is an absolute gem.
There is some superb guitar work which is damped to perfectly as it smacks in to a steel wall, whilst the vocal is allowed to reverberate around the room. This is not only great indie-dance, it also is highly proficient production.
The synths enable the band to swallow gulps of oxygen providing the whole effect to work as smoothly as silk.
Coastal Cities are not a band to listen to, when you are planning a quiet sit down, you will be up and joining in with the music before you can settle.
