Slim Loris
Slim Loris is an Indie band from Stockholm in Sweden with the line-up of Mattias Cederstam (Vocals / Bass / Piano), Robert Barrefelt (Guitars) and when live also includes Jonas Ellenberg (Drums) and Leon Lindström (Guitars / Vocals).
You just know when you come to a Swedish indie band there will be something marking a difference and Slim Loris is no exception adding the defining Swedish melancholia to a base of American folk rock to deliver a sound that haunts the mind.
Judicious use of piano and violin here and there add a Mariana Trench of depth to the output that already requires a sonar profiling system to map the layers. There is something that touches the very core of the listener and although this sits, theoretically as a sub-genre that I shouldn’t be chasing after, there is something intensely powerful that wrests a knot of emotional core in which the mind finds a sense of calm and discovery.
As I mentioned at the outset, it is the ability to inject the Scandinavian je ne sais quoi of which I often refer, to folk Americana that raises this to a sound that pitches Slim Loris as a must listen to.
Whilst the tracks layers swathes of texture to explore there is also the rolling tempo of the rock core that keeps the music moving forward, keeping the listener constantly alert to the movement and aware of the snatches of composition just fleetingly heard.
