Circle
Circle from Enmore in Australia is the alternative indie trio of Radi (Vocals / Keyboard), Bec (vocal / Keyboard) and Dan (Bass) who have been together since 2005.
Surprisingly with so many keyboards, the material manages to strike a strident chord of paroxysms. There is a drubbing bass that can’t help but catch my ears and I find myself following it to an engaging space. Switching lead between Bec and Radi makes for an interesting and completely different sound to the band. With Radi on lead vocal the material takes a more traditional folk base-coat, whilst with Bec they switch to a more effervescent and radical structure, both work equally as well and it gives three players the ability to shuffle across a huge range of material, which they deliver with a lightness of touch. Without ever loosing the core sound that is centred around a smartly played bass line.
The judicious use of traditional and synthetic keys enables the band to layer the sounds emerging in a variety of waves that engross the ears. Add to which trumpet, percussions and we find a completely rounded band. I wonder what has been happening over the past seven years as the latest release of just under 45 minutes of sublime material The Middle is deserving of some considerable space.
