Pussy Riot

Pussy Riot a collective of women indie agit-rockers from Moscow in Russia bear the wrath of Putin, the Russian Orthodox Church and all the State can throw at them. On the 20th July 2012, finally after months of delay Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina  and Yekaterina Samutsevich faced a court, only for it to be held back another six months whilst they remained in detention. Their crime? I will come back to it later.

Pussy Riot

The sheer anger streams across the room in vents of torn sinew as Pussy Riot explode out of the speakers. A feminist collective with the aim of raising an angle on social division across Russia and the collective faces it head on. It is always a pleasure for the Indie Bands Blog to tie up with Anarchy in the UK and head to common space, far better it is done on a decent sound and once again political activists not only know how to make a stand they know how to make music.

Oh yes – the crime back in February 2012.

Five members of Pussy Riot briefly took over the pulpit at Christ The Savior Cathedral in Moscow, chanting ‘Mother Mary, drive Putin away’ aka – A Punk Prayer. Three of the band members, were thrown into jail and face charges of hooliganism that could bring them seven years if convicted.

Once again thank you to an agitation indie rock band for making a difference to not only the world of music, but also to the world in a wider space. It is when I find bands like Pussy Riot, that the life of a music reviewer becomes an absolute pleasure.
