Sauna
Sauna is a band from Denver in the USA. CJ (guitar), Ethan (bass), Sammi (drums) and Molly (vocals) got together in 2011 to let rip with their blend of indie-pop.
Where the hell have my socks gone? An angst of teenage (t)issues and memorabilia have arrived in the room and for some unknown reason life feels good. I normally find festering adolescents more hassle than I can abide, yet Sauna holds a bewitching spell.
This is a delightful bouncing rhythm and I whilst I am tempted to reference Ari Up, damn, I’ve done it. Sauna plough a new furrow pulling the strings from a plethora of spaces yanking the zygomaticus to a rictus as I can’t help but engage. The images which flash to mind are the David Lynch directed Blue Velvet with the picket fence and the David Lynch, Twin Peaks, seemingly a joyful space until the underbelly is exposed and so I find Sauna a prescience to the global situation, an underlying angst with a gloss of fun.
This is a far more political statement than for which the band is given credit and they have the ability to wrap it in layers of fizz. That marks a card absolutely deserving of attention.
