2Tallin

2Tallin from Fresno in the USA takes the name for the fact that one member stand 6 feet 8 inches another 6 feet 5 inches. You can tell by the list of members - Travis Huff, Patrick Warnshuis, Scott Laxton, Chris Elkins Features: Danielle RonderoChristinaYB (MR.SexintheKitchen)Nate One and DJ: Ernie Garcia, that I am once again heading towards hip-hop / rap and it needs to be something which is in the clouds before I give this style of music room to breathe and I do advise setting prejudices aside to give this out-fit a listen.

The compositions are the strength of this band and I think alternative-rap is a more appropriate description. I always listen to submissions and it because of that opportunity to listen to a vast range of music, sometimes a jewel shines in an unexpected corner.

We are not treated to diatribe of ‘my life is tough’ but an emotion laden construction which is exemplified by the heart-felt reflections on a marital breakdown.  Through the use of not only electronics but real instruments and an equal billing to the female vocal, 2Tallin are visible above the crowd and that is not just a literal perspective. The beats are reminiscent of Trance, but have been given a boost of steroids and the liberal use of the instruments isn’t a prop; rather some well, constructed and played music, which takes the band on a side-step outside the flanks.

Yes, I will always find rap to be difficult on the ears, only because the punk poet John Cooper Clarke fore-ran it so much better back in the ’70s and continues to excel today. 2Tallin however don’t rely on the speed of delivery and banality of lyric to make a point. It also ties with the music, which keeps the ears tuned and the use of sung vocal to maintain an equilibrium, which makes for an intriguing sound.
