The Five One

The Five One from Washington, USA are influenced by a wide range of styles, including Bob Marley, The Beatles and The White Stripes and see their music not just as an expression, but a lifestyle.

The Five One

Choosing to subsume their personal identities, the band members Red, Blue, Green, Gold express themselves through these colours. Driven by a strong belief that personal and cultural conditioning stops people reaching their potential, by casting aside personal identity, they have become expressions of the colours to which they are drawn.

Their original material has the intensity of a personal story, without the associated egocentricity. In addition to their expressed influences they can also be described as an alternative rap/hip-hop band, complete with drums, bass and lead guitar, which in itself indicates the creative flair the Five One have sought to inject in to their work, much of which is remixes.

I hope the Five One can find more time to generate and create their original material which stands up well on its own.

Red was the lead instigator in making colour the identifier for individuals as his complementing other band members on wearing red, they saw as imposing a threat to their own individuality, which led to the various band members expressing themselves through colour choices.
