Delica-m – The Edge of Reach LP review.

In January 2012 I introduced the Canadian band Delica-m and they have been keeping themselves busy since, including the release of their 7 track LP The Edge of Reach.

Delica-m

Delica-m

Opening with Life in Pictures – this is a track I know well and the sounds of shadowy electro-dance that mark out Delica-m  enticing the listener in to the darker recesses of the club. A solid four minute opener to lay the foundations to The Edge of Reach.

Next up comes Five Seconds an airier space that finds the band flirting with the higher registers, giving the track something of a space-walk feel and an interesting alternative side to the band.

Mean Something Here (2012) tipples up the tempo slightly and once again we find a new dimension to the band as baffled layers of sound provide a far sharper definition to the out-put which provides a completely different mood setter.

Heading back to the darker side We Are Fire is my pick of the release as the original and carefully orchestrated track wends its meandering path through the exposition of composite parts, combining instrumentation and electronics in sublime balance.

Trouble With You is almost industrial in feel and provides approaching five minutes of superlative synth driven overdrive.

The penultimate track Erase Me holds the listener in a bubble of bounce, whilst extraneous emotive vocal and distortions give a sense that the listener is being protected from the harsher realities around.

Concluding with Thief – a decent closer to the LP as it finds the listener back in the atmospherics that mark out a space in which Delica-m is a deft exponent.
