The Recusants

They have the knack of veering towards the mainstream, then sliding off on a tangent, perhaps that’s the –  not bowing to authority. The Recusants play a sharply paced sound, with all the necessary tempo to retain interest from the rock elements, while simultaneously ripping the shreds as indie fans demand and it sounds genuine.

There are some decently constructed noises coming out of the band, with a powerful bass-line always ready to up the ante. An intriguing vocal, which has the strangulation of Lemmy, then comfortably diving to a  choir boy purity. It is this bouncing around spaces that makes The Recusants such an interesting band to find.

Guitars leave notes dangling in the trees before floating gently down to earth. While there is a danger of this just being a mish-mash of sound, these guys are able to make sense of it all and keep the audience engaged. Variety works well, if you can pull it off and to my ears The Recusants are able to pull the diversions together to create a sound which has much that is needed for a song for a mood.
