Sound Of Sirens
Robert Doherty (Vocals), Michael Bray (Guitar), John Whicker (Drums), Pete Davies (Bass) and Ryan Garner (Keys / Synths / Backing vocals) are now the line-up of the Leeds in the UK based band Sound of Sirens, who originally formed in 2008.
So why am I reviewing Sound of Sirens? Quite simply Rob, picked up on something I wrote on facebook, which made me smile and so I had to take a gander and so here we are.
There is retrospective sound that resonates as they play the riffs which defined the alternative rock scene way back then, but it is all boosted to the front of the stage with the addition of a twisting dance beat. I was trying to chat to Rob, while listening to a track, but my body was swaying away from the keyboard and to be honest I wanted to just get on with listening to more music and less chat and this is exactly how to measure a band, in my opinion.
There is a sense of Ultravox buried in there somewhere, but far more importantly there is a spiral twist that takes me on to a new stairwell. Some gorgeous fret work is combined with a sensitive percussion, while the electronics hove a sublime frame-work in which bass and vocal explore the spaces to complete a depictive imagery of life in the 21st Century.
There is much more to come from Sound of Sirens and these guys are deserving of space and respect.
